Computer Batteries: Change Computer Batteries
June 19, 2008 – 12:07 pmIf youre one of the many notebook users who has multiple batteries, its important to change computer batteries every once in awhile. If a battery is left alone for extended periods, it will slowly discharge the power. The rate of speed that a battery discharges the power depends on the temperature of the environment theyre stored in. Hotter surroundings will increase the flow of ions and discharge the battery more rapidly than a cooler atmosphere would.
Leaving a battery inactive for weeks or months could see the battery fully self-discharge. What can happen after this is that the laptop may not recognize the battery anymore. At this point, the user could be forced to purchase a new battery. This is why its important to rotate between batteries often, or to swap back and forth between the AC adapter and a battery on a regular basis.
Tips for When You Change Computer Batteries
When you change computer batteries, its recommended that you give them a good cleaning. This is very affordable and could help to improve the performance of the battery. By cleaning the connection part of the battery with some rubbing alcohol and a cotton swap, you are removing any excess dirt and grime that has built up, giving the battery a better connection to the laptop.
If you know ahead of time that you wont be needing to use your batteries for long periods of time–such as a month or two–its recommended to fully discharge them, and then store them in a cool dry place. Once youre ready to use the batteries again, its important to exercise them before using them again by fully charging/discharging the batteries a few times before regular use.
